African Fashion Week Houston 2017 Executive Reception

African Fashion Week Houston 2017 kicks off on Monday 18th September 2017, with an exclusive reception at the intriguing gallery and wine bar. We will host our designers, media partners, vendors and VIP guests, as well as welcome celebrities and fashion industry influencers as we gather to celebrate the start of the 4th AFWH, our most ambitious yet!

Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served from 6pm – 8pm.

Beauty & Makeup Live Demonstration Workshop

Location: Color Du Jour Makeup Studio, 3425 S Shepherd Dr #330, Houston, TX 77089

Time: 5PM - 9PM

Hosted by Alaina Saulsberry, the owner/founder of Color Du Jour, LLC and Color Du Jour Makeup Studio the workshop will take us through through techniques such as foundation selection, brow shaping, eye shadow blending, color correcting, highlighting/contouring, skin care and much more. Enjoy complimentary desserts and cocktails, and take home gift bags worth over $75!

DIY Ankara Block Print Workshop with Sophia Adodo of Sew With Sophie

Location: Ronin Art House, 806 Richey St, Houston, TX 77002.

Time: 5M - 9PM

Beginning with a brief history of Ankara fabric, Batik prints and block-printing in Africa and the technological advances within printing today, this workshop with fashion designer, instructor, and owner of Sew With Sophie will combine traditional African block-printing techniques with a bit of history! Each guest will experiment with block printing in order to create their own fabrics that they can take home.

You will be provided with one 12x12 fabric square for printing for the class as well as refreshments. There will also be tote bags, head scarves, etc  for an additional fee.

Each participant will need to register online and pay the registration fee ahead of time to secure their spot.

Art, Wine & Culture

Time: 5PM - 10PM

African Fashion Week Houston presents a night of Wine, Art, & Culture. Join us for an elegant evening of art appreciation, cultural exchange and socializing in the lovely Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion in Houston’s landmark Hermann Park, hosted by poet and spoken word artist, Se7en.

Enjoy a tour of the art exhibits, poetry, spoken word, a performance by saxophonist Niyi Neyo, music from DJ Tunes, and a preview of the fashion to be showcased at African Fashion Week Houston with a mini runway show.

There will be complimentary light bites served from 6pm - 8pm, and the chance to win in our raffle draw (so bring your business cards to be entered into the raffle!)

A runway show with the focus on Ankara designs and featuring a marketplace with fashion, beauty and lifestyle vendors and designers.

Time: 10PM - 2PM

Come party with us on the rooftop of the stylish Aloft Downtown Houston for an exciting silent party experience!

Choose your own vibe at the flip of a switch with a choice of 3 DJs, each playing the hottest tunes from a variety of genres. Wearing your special wireless headphones, you can control the volume and what you listen to. The LED displays your choice of music so like minded partiers can spot each other. It’s super social; just lower the volume or take the headphones off and talk to that girl or guy! There’s no loud music that you have to talk over, and no ringing in your ears when you leave!

Houston Elite and African Fashion Week Houston Present The AFWH/Love My Neighbor Community Festival

Location: Budweiser Brewery Experience, 775 Gellhorn Drive, Houston, TX 77029

Time: 11AM - 8PM

A day long multi-cultural festival with the focus on community spirit and family, the AFWH/Love My Neighbor Fest will feature local and international fashion, live music, dance performances, a kids zone, and a marketplace. Two stages will offer local and international acts and DJs, fashion shows, special presentations and more.

Shop fashion, lifestyle, art & culture from an interesting mix of vendors, food from a variety of cultures, and enjoy complimentary drinks from Anheuser-Busch. Raffles and giveaways throughout the day will add even more excitement.
