What is African Fashion Week About?
African Fashion Week Houston (AFWH) is the city's premier international fashion experience, highlighting the essence of African culture and aesthetics through a series of fashion shows, networking and social events, seminars, and industry-focused workshops. Our annual week-long experience aims to promote world-class designers & labels that push the envelope, while staying true to the traditions and inspiration of the African continent and diaspora.
Created by business and tech entrepreneur Nkem Oji-Alala in 2014, African Fashion Week Houston has continued to progress in the the world of cultural fashion thanks to our unique approach to working with select designers to curate and showcase their collections with the utmost attention to detail and precision on the runway.
As reflected across many African cultures, our organization believes in the value of community. AFWH supports aspiring professionals looking enter the world of fashion through our partnerships with notable educational institutions within the Greater Houston area. In addition, the organization frequently endorses both charitable and cultural organizations that are dedicated to the welfare, growth and spirit of society.
For 2017, AFWH's theme is Making The Connection as we endeavor to continue our mission to celebrate and share the traditions, elegance and innovation of African inspired fashion with the world, and to advance the spirit of community and cultural excellence across every society.
